The Perils of a Rouge Ringtone

Forgot to silence your phone or turn that volume down, we've all been there

The Perils of a Rouge Ringtone

11/6/2023

It’s first hour and all of a sudden. Bringgg! Bringgggggg! Is it yours or someone else's, can’t be mine i hear it across the room. Nope, not me. “My bad guys” Ohhh it was them. I would've been embarrassed if that was my phone. We have all been there. Whether it was your ringtone not silenced, volume on full blast, or someone who loves that notify anyway button by now you've experienced it firsthand or not. But why is it so bad, I mean we have all been through so why is it still so embarrassing when it is you? As far as I’m concerned it’s been happening for too long and happens too much for it to be this big deal anymore so here is why we should stop being embarrassed altogether.

There are numerous articles, videos, and posts made about the “phone going off in class” citation. Whether it be about how to prevent it or statistics on how often it happens it has become a big enough deal for major names to write and or comment about it. For instance media networks like The Washington Post and CBS News both a compelling pieces on the topic. My point with this is the majority in this issue. Whenever a phone goes off in class when it isn’t supposed to, so did 7 others somewhere around the world at that exact moment. In our building alone there is most likely around 10 to 15, if not more, daily phone ringing outburst so because it brings happiness so much let’s stop being embarrassed. You should feel perfectly normal when this happens to you because it does to everyone, so simply silence or turn off your phone and go about your day.

Another point worth noting is the fact that it’s just a distraction and never the end of the world. If we think about it, teachers interrupt themselves all the time and in all honesty, a ringtone is no different or 0.3 seconds of a tik tok is no different. It’s healthy to say that accidents happen, and they make life more interesting. Even though it might not be in that moment later that day someone might look back on the moment with a smile so if you wanted to trick your mind a little it technically helped. I personally think the best way to overcome these moments is to just laugh it off and own it with humor.

At the end of the day, life is too short to get embarrassed over small things like ringtones or short clips of a video. We have all been there so there is no reason to dwell on these occasions.
