Dance Majors: Where Passion Meets Movement

Everything that you wanna know about this week's dance majors

Do you know about the dance majors? Taught by Ms.Cerena and Ms.Brandi, these students are passionate and creative who love body movement. You may have spotted some dance students in the hall carrying their dance acquire going toward the dance annex. If you were to enter the dance annex you would see two dance classrooms consisting of one for ballet and tap and one for modern dance. There are also locker rooms and restrooms. Mr. Hill's art classroom is also in the building. 

So far the first semester is going very well. In Ms. Cerena's ballet class dancers are working very hard to learn ballet barre, across-the-floor exercises, and their center combinations. They are also learning much knowledge in their ballet terminology.  Meanwhile, in Ms.Brandi's advanced modern dance class, they are working on a jazz unit. The dance majors in advanced modern are also learning a jazz dance to perform at OKC Ballet Dance Day and Dance Extravaganza. The dancers in Ms.Brandi's class are also learning some elements of jazz dance and some steps like the boogie back, Charleston, and a Matt Mattox port de bras. 

There are some exciting dates to look forward to in the near future. Student Choreography Show Auditions This is an opportunity for dance majors to audition as choreographers taking place on September 13th.  Another is OKC Ballet's dance day is coming up on September 16th, This event is a celebration of all forms of dance taking place in Oklahoma City Ballet's iconic Susan E.  Brakett Dance Center. A small group of dance majors are selected to perform there.  They are currently working on a jazz dance for that event too.
