Spotless Giraffe Spotted at Brights Zoo:
Will you help pick its name?
August 26th, 2023
On July 31, 2023, a rarity of a giraffe was born.
Now a 6-foot-tall baby giraffe was born completely brown. (Though it is not the first giraffe record to be born without any spot because their have been a couple before born but they were fully yellow.)
There are currently no living no-spotted giraffes. The prior last recorded no-spotted giraffe was in 1972 at the Toyoko Ueno Zoo.
Bright Zoo is a private, family-owned business located in Limestone, Tennessee.
“Early moving is the best time to see her." “She tends to want to go up at about 2 or 3 o’clock every day." According to Brights, the zoo's best time to visit her is 2 to 3.
Currently, the nameless calf (a baby giraffe) has a voting poll to decide its name and it is located on the zoo's Facebook page (Brights Zoo). The winning name will be announced on Labor Day Monday, September 4, 2023.
The current candidates for names are Kipekee meaning unique, Firyali - meaning extraordinary, Shakiri meaning #1 beauty aka the prettiest, and Jamella - which means one of the most beautiful.
Conservatory
Bright's said that they normally don't post about baby animals, but they let this one leak, and because of how eye-catching she was, they thought it was a good way to spread awareness about the GCF (Giraffe Conservatory Foundation).
In the last 30 years, the giraffe species have been slowing down.
From the 1980s to today, there has been a drastic 38 thousand living giraffes difference.
And according to the GCF website article "What are the main threats to giraffes?" and it states that"The combined impacts of habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, habitat degradation, human population growth, poaching (illegal hunting), disease, and war and civil unrest threaten the remaining giraffe and their distribution throughout Africa."
