I Tried Cottagecore for The 5 Days
Cottagecore Reveiw
Date 08/21/23
Not that long ago a phenomenon took the internet by storm;
Cottage core
You most likely know what this is, but if you don’t: Cottagecore is a lifestyle/aesthetic that was created around the idea of living off the grid beautifully and gracefully. Some people make bread every week and press flowers. Others like to listen to dreamy classical music while drinking tea and watching the sunrise. This week I wanted to see what that was all about.
Day 1:
I’m going to be honest with you: I’ve been trying my best to live in this lifestyle for ages. Cottagecore is something that I resonate with. One of the only things I look forward to in the spring is picking flowers in a flowy dress or baking freshly made bread and cookies.
On the first day, I put on one of my favorite cottagecore dresses. It was a short red floral print dress with a ruffle on the bottom and a tie-up ribbon front. I put on a matching red headband and short black heels.
When I got to school I listened to classical music/a cottagecore playlist all day and made sure I was caught up on all my work. Listening to classical music is nothing new to me, but it is something I haven’t done in a very long time.
Day 2:
When I came into this challenge I thought that instead of just doing cottagecore I would also do some alternatives. Although cottage-core is the most known out of the alternative aesthetics there are many more that are slightly different. Some of these aesthetics are as follows;
Goblincore
Fairycore
Princesscore
Farmcore
Honeycore
etc.
On the second day, I decided to do a casual goblin core. Goblincore is much like cottagecore but it’s darker and more forest-themed. I wore a black tank top with brown pants and a green cardigan. Instead of classical, I listened to more fantasy-folk music.
Day 3:
Some people like to feel cottagecore without being cottagecore. This sounded confusing to me at first but today I think I finally understand. Dressing cottage core can be a big hassle in the morning, and sometimes you just don't feel like it.
On the morning of the third day, I didn't feel like standing up and taking up 15 minutes of the day finding a cottagecore-esc outfit so I just put on a green skirt and tank top and decided to 'feel cottagecore' without the need to look the part. I listened to my cottage-core folk music and did some cottage-core things; some colouring and cleaning. However, these seem like everyday things to do it felt cottage-core to me.
Day 4:
On day four I put on a dark green 'Camp Half-Blood' shirt and brown trousers. A casual but vintage cottagecore/goblincore outfit. Sometimes when people think of cottagecore they think of uncomfortable dresses and pants and clean, organized places. This is simply just not true. This week I've been trying to make sure that everything I wear isn't unbearably uncomfortable. I could freely move around in all of my outfits; on day two I even did ballet in my outfit! I tried to make sure that I could do things without feeling the need and/or want to change.
The day I did this on I was my cleaning day and I organized all of my clothing in this outfit. I have a lot of clothing so comfortability was a must.
Day 5:
I've learned many things from this challenge;
This was harder than I thought it could be.
There are hundreds of different cottagecore alternatives.
You don't need to look cottagecore to be/feel cottagecore.
It is possible to dress cottagecore without having to wear a flowy dress and/or specifically cottagecore clothing
I wear tanktops too often.
On day five I wore a backless green flower-printed top with long flowy jeans. This outfit was more modern but still had a feminine cottageore-esc theme. I really enjoyed doing this challenge and 100% recommend doing it or something like it. If you do want to do it here are some tips:
Plan your outfits!!!! (I didn't plan them and coming up with the outfits was the most difficult part of the whole challenge).
You don't need to look cottagecore to feel it.
Have a playlist or two of what you think is cottagecore.
Don't restrict yourself to a specific look. Cottagecore is whatever you think cottagecore is.
Try out some different and new things!
