Crane Wives

The Crane Wives: a small Indie-folk-rock band. Not many people know about them, but they deserve more recognition. Their music has been described as fantasy music, the perfect Renaissance fair performance band, modern Anne of Green Gables music, and more. In this article I will talk about this wonderful band and how they came to be.

The Crane Wives is a band that started in 2010 with two members: Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury. They were friends working at a Chinese restaurant in Grandville, Michigan. They spent their weekends performing in the restaurant and making music, but it wasn't received as well as some other bands. They kept making music even though they hadn't had a 'big boom' yet. Later on, two more members were added: Dan Rickabus and Ben Zito. They had been playing music at the college that the four of them were going to before.

They released their first album Safe Ship, Harbored in 2012 in the format of CD. The band The Decemberists took a picture with said album and posted it to Facebook causing the band to become more well-known and popular.

A Fool in her Wedding Dress was then released in 2015. They tried to sign a deal but couldn't manage to get one.

In 2015 Coyote Stories was released. This was a two-part album meaning that the second part, Folklore was released not too long after in 2016. These albums feature collaborators who will most likely end up staying long-term in the band. During the release of these albums, the news about the banjo player's departure was posted on Facebook by Dan Rickabus.

The Crane Wives is a group of people who have been making music and working together since 2010. They have known each other for a long time and are building their way up to fame. I hope after this article you will check this band out and give them the recognition they deserve.
